Top 5 Lit from Within Foundations for ALL Ages + Skin Types

Updated: May 23, 2020

Everyone has a style of complexion and artistry that they choose to

A) do on themselves

B) do on their clients.

I am a Makeup Artist who likes to live in her best glow-self. I am all about radiant and dewy skin, in my opinion, it is very flattering and youthful regardless of age. Now this is not to say wanting a matte or satin finish is not beautiful either, but as I tend to be more on the dry side with my skin, I like to create a sheen that looks natural and like you’ve just set foot off an aeroplane on a tropical island, that instantaneous humidity GLOW!

So in a long winded way, here’s my TOP 5 Foundations with a Luminous Finish, suitable for all ages and skin types. I will also do a TOP 5 blog on Matte and Satin Finish Foundations too, to ensure I am giving the best advice possible for you as the reader.

Make sure to check out my other blogs here for other topics and advice I have given as a Professional Freelance Makeup Artist: www.makeupbyaylce.com.au/blog

Number #1 BareMinerals Complexion Rescue Gel

For people who aren’t use to wearing makeup, or maybe you're wanting a light-weight alternative, Complexion Rescue is a must. It is a tinted gel pumped full of skin-loving ingredients including hyaluronic acid and a non-chemical SPF for UV protection. This gel does an amazing job at evening out the complexion of any redness and pigmentation while still leaving you with a skin-like appearance. I took this travelling with me around Europe for 16 weeks in 2018 and it literally made such a difference. Everyone complimented my skin as I was travelling, talk about a confidence booster!

This tinted gel is:

  • Hydrating

  • Contains broad spectrum chemical free SPF 30 for daily use

  • Evens out pigmentation

  • Mineral based for skin loving goodness

  • Diverse colour and undertone range

  • Super lightweight in texture and consistency

  • Paraban, oil, fragrance and gluten free, for those topical celiacs out there

It currently retails for $53.00aud and can be found in-store or online at Mecca

Number #2 NARS Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation

Personally, I am not one to use full-coverage foundations, as I much prefer incorporating colour corrective techniques into my applications to ensure an even, non-cakey and flawless finish when it comes to foundation. In saying that, if I had to choose one full-coverage foundation that isn’t cakey or drying, it would have to be the NARS Radiant Longwear Foundation

This foundation is

  • Full coverage

  • Lightweight and breathable

  • Super creamy in texture so it glides on with ease

  • Covers pigmentation flawlessly

  • Suitable for all skin types

  • Diverse in its colour range

  • Fights free radical damage and is anti-ageing

  • Luminous and brightening skincare effects thanks to Apple and Watermelon extract

  • Oil, alcohol, paraban and fragrance free

It currently retails for $78.00aud which is an investment for a foundation, but seeing as you’re wearing it on your face most of the day, I personally believe it’s a sound decision to purchase as it’s looking after your skin and fighting off nasties while you’re wearing it, how cool is that! You can find it in-store or online at Mecca

Number #3 Kryolan TV Paint Stick

This is an OG foundation in the performance and theatre industry, especially for Drag Queens. The Kryolan TV Paint Stick super full-coverage and covers imperfections/pigmentation without the need for concealer. Though it is super full coverage, a little bit goes a really long way and can be used extremely sparingly - which is the way I choose to use it. Though suitable for most skin types, it does contain oil, so my Oily guys and gals, make sure to prime your skin with a mattifying primer and setting the foundation in place with either a translucent and coloured powder to control the shine.

This foundation stick is:

  • Long-wearing

  • Hyper concentrated in pigment

  • Flawless in appearance

  • Opaque regardless of how much or little used

It claims to be demi-matte in appearance, and I would have to say I disagree. Even with dry skin, I find this foundation to be quite luminous in it’s appearance, having used this myself for over 7 years and on clients too, hence the recommendation for a luminous finish foundation.

TV Paint Stick currently retails for $49.00aud and you can buy this foundation in-store or online at Kryolan also on Adore Beauty

Number #4 Clinique Even Better Glow Foundation

This foundation is an innovative formula by skincare cult classic and legends, Clinique known as the Even Better Glow Foundation. It was designed with the Even Better Makeup range in mind, and contains active ingredients that particularly helps mature and ageing skin to look and feel as youthful as possible, keeping in mind a proper skincare routine, good nutrition and water will help get the best results from any skincare or enriched makeup you do use.

This foundation is:

  • Medium to build-able coverage

  • Infused with Vitamin C to brighten and even the complexion instantaneously and over time

  • Contains a broad spectrum SPF 15 for UV protection

  • Formulated with hydrating properties to plump and smooth the skin and fine lines

  • Infused pigment technology to give a dewy finish

Even Better Glow currently retails for $55.00aud and it can be found in-store or online at Myer, Adore Beauty and Mecca.

Number #5 Hourglass Illusion Hyaluronic Skin Tint

And to refer to my previous blog quote (and by no means original by me haha) last but not least is the Hourglass Illusion Hyaluronic Skin Tint - talk about tongue twister!

This Skin Tint has to be one of my favourite’s on the market, and a little bit truly does go a long way. And for those out there who may have skin that’s maturing or their conscious of using something with anti-ageing properties, this is a great product to invest in!

This skin tint it:

  • Rich and creamy in texture

  • Medium to full coverage

  • Contains hyaluronic acid to plump fines lines, wrinkles and to firm the skin

  • Evens out and softens the complexion from advanced pearlescent pigment technology

  • Paraben, fragrance, gluten and sulphate free as well as a lot of other chemical ingredients that can irritate the skin

This currently retails for $92.00aud and can be found in-store or online at Mecca

So there you have it, my Top 5 Lit from Within Foundations for All Ages and Skin Types!

With any of my suggestions of Luminous Finish Foundations above, I would recommend pairing any of the above with a primer suitable for your skin type.

For Oily skin, something mattifying or smoothing, as oilier skin types tend to be more porous. For Combination skin, a beautiful moisturiser for hydration for your overall complexion and a mattifying primer for areas oil tends to come through. Another suggestion would be to set your foundation in place with a translucent or pressed coloured powder to control shine and oil. For my fellow Dry to Dehydrated guys and gals, I would suggest a hydrating primer or oil, I personally love something Argan or Rosehip based for their anti-ageing properties and slip it gives to the skin, this just means your foundation will literally glide on the skin!

I hope you enjoyed reading this blog and of course I am open to suggestions or feedback in what you would to like me to write about next, or even things you think I can improve on to make it an even more enjoyable read for you!

Until next time
